Welcome Runners!

If you live in Texas or the south and have ever trained in the summer (And who stops running?), you have already done a training run of this length before. If you are not from Texas, we are offering you a Texas sized experience. The Hottest Half is run next to White Rock Lake and we have water every mile along the way. Come celebrate a Texas summer with us!

We will cap the Hottest Half at 2500. At this time it appears that we may sell out before race week.

Waterstations

We will have 6 water stations on our out and back half marathon course to insure all your hydration needs are met. This means the half runners will have 12 opportunities for water and Gatorade. All water stops on the half course will be serviced by Water Monster Inc.
Those running the 10k will see 4 four opportunities for water. They will be placed at mile 1.1, 2.4, 3.8 and 5.1 mile points.

Description

This is an out and back course. There will be 12 opportunities for water on the half course and 4 on the 10k course. The half will start at 7:30 a.m. At the new Mockingbird bridge the half runners will go over the bridge and run on the west side of White Rock Lake. The 10k will start ten minutes later at 7:40 a.m. The 10k will stay on the east side of the lake on East Lawther Dr. and run south of Poppy Dr returning back on East Lawther and to Norbuck Park and the finish line. A new half map is being currently designed.

Awards

We will have awards for the top male and female overall, top male and female masters in both the half and 10k.We will present awards to the top three finishers both male and female in the following age groups for both the half and 10k: 19& Under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+. Overall winners will be determined by gun time but age group awards will be based on chip time. All finishers of The Hottest Half will receive our Hottest Half finisher medals. We will have finisher medals for all those running the 10k also!

Parking

There is limited parking at Norbuck Park. We will have a large satellite parking area at Flagpole Hill one block from the event site across Northwest Highway race day. There will be enough parking for everyone, but allow time for a 3-4 block walk to and from your car. To view a parking map click on the map below.

Norbuck Park is located at the Southeast corner of Buckner Blvd. and Northwest Highway.

Exit I-75 onto NW Hwy and drive east on NW Hwy ~ 3 miles. Pass a huge American flag on your left (Flagpole Hill). At the next stoplight, turn right onto Buckner. Immediately veer right onto Lawther. Turn left under the bridge, then straight across the access road to Norbuck Park.

8. Will there be port-o-lets on the course?

There will be six points on the course near all water stations for half marathoners. Two points will serve those running the 10k.

9. Is there a place for me to check extra clothing or baggage?

Yes we will have a secure bag check area at Norbuck Park , however you will be parking within one block of the finish line so there should be little need.

10. Is there a charge for parking?

Parking is free. Please arrive early. There is limited parking at Norbuck. Check maps link for complete information

11. Will photos be taken along the course and at the finish?

Yes, our event photographer is Jerry Glover Photography and can be linked to from our photos page.

12. If I sign up for the half marathon and I later decide to switch and just run the 10k, is this possible?

You can switch to the shorter distances. However, there will be no refunds made allowing for the lesser fees of the shorter distances.

13. Is the course flat or hilly?

The course is mostly flat with a few small hills

14. What types of running surfaces are on the course?

You will be running mostly on bike paths with some asphalt and some concrete.

15. What if I cannot attend and participate after entering?

There are no refunds.

FAQs

1. Can I register the day of the race?

Yes , starting at 6:00 a.m.

2. Do you allow MP3 Players and music devices?

Yes they are allowed. The Hottest Half is run mostly on bike paths and is closed to car traffic. However there will be cyclists on the course so please remain alert.

3. Is it possible to drive the course?

No, the course is mostly on the bike paths around White Rock Lake.

4. What happens if at some point of the Hottest Half course I decide I cannot finish?

We will have vehicles on the course to pick up those that feel they must quit. Although they will be roving the course, it will help if you look out for police or volunteers manning the course so they can radio your need for help.

5. Is there medical help available on the course?

We will have medic bike teams roving the course to aid any medical needs. All police will have the ability to radio for ambulance assistance if needed.

6. What sports drink will you be serving and is it available at every water station?

Our sports drink is Gatorade and we will have it available at every water station.

7. Will there be food items on the course?

No but we will have plenty of food items for you before and after the race.

The Hottest Half & 10k will use the ChronoTrack timing system, which records your time precisely from start to finish. ChronoTrack is the latest timing technology. Your timing tag is now disposable and will come with your bib number when you get your race packet. No more lining up to get your timing chip race morning, and no waiting to have your timing chip retrieved at the finish line! At all Mellew Production events, we try to call out everyone's name as you finish.

Muscle Milk Recovery Zone!

Muscle Milk will have foam rollers and an instructor helping everyone cool down. The first 500 will receive cold wash cloths.
